| * The
nicest hotel along the Danube boulevard is the Átrium Hyatt.
It is worthwhile having a look inside even if you can't afford a
night there!
* Walk over the Lánc Hid
(chain bridge, which is the nicest bridge in Budapest) to
Buda. At the end of the bridge you can either take the 'sikló' (a
little mountain train) to reach the castle
or you can also easily walk up. In the castle you find the
Fisher's Bastion which boasts one of the best views over
the whole town.
*The unit of currency is the forint
(Ft or HUF) and fillér for the change (100 fillér = 1 Ft), though
these days fillér coins are rare (officially out of use) and not
worth much. The 50 Ft coins are easy to confuse with the 10 Ft
coins.
* Beware of pick pockets : especially at
crowded places such as the Castle District. Take care of your
valuables! |
*Take
a walk along the beautiful boulevard Andrássy út,
between the Hero's square and the center. There is also a good bakry,
Andrássy út 29 (open till mid-night).
* There is a nice indoor market
place in Pest, close to Szabadság bridge.
* Night-buses:
1,3,6,31,42,45,61,78,144, 153, 173, 175, 179, 182
* Night trams:
14, 28, 49, 50
* You are advised to use phone cards and
not coins in public phone booths. They can be bought in post
offices, newspaper kiosks and at high traffic junctions.
